Artistic Philosophy
I believe a successful piece of art--whether subjective or abstract, painting or sculpture—takes on a life and spirit of its own. Beyond simply viewing the work, you become personally involved in it. The most successful work can be measured by its ability to compel the viewer into this environment and to touch their emotions in a unique and timeless way. The best work will stay fresh and compelling forever.
The blank canvas gives me absolute freedom to create. I have the same opportunity afforded past artists from Leonardo to Sargent. My joy as an artist is to take maximum advantage of this opportunity by creating work that possesses its own artistic heart and soul…a presence that emanates from me—both humbling and exhilarating.
For Portraits: As I’m developing and executing your portrait, I’m looking beyond (without discounting) your reaction to it. I’m striving to create a great painting that will have a soul of its own—a soul that will be apparent, regardless of when it’s viewed; be it you in the next week, or a complete stranger in the next millennium. While I’ll make it my responsibility to reach this goal, your portrait’s soul will, by definition, originate from you.
I am committed to artistic excellence, lifelong improvement, and a body of work that will stand the test of time.
Customer Philosophy—Commissioned work.
I am an artist who actually enjoys working by committee. After 20 years in corporate life, I find that two heads can be better than one, and I thrive on the challenge and expansion resulting from external input. Whether the input be the nature of an individual’s image, or an intellectual vision that a corporate leader might voice, working with a client allows me the honor of bringing our joint image to life.
I believe the true path to long-term business success is total customer satisfaction, and quality is the fundamental component of satisfaction. My goal is to acheive a quality experience leading to world-class results. I guarantee your complete satisfaction, and outstanding purchase value.
I will work with you to understand your needs, and provide input appropriate to your comfort level. If this is your first experience with developing apiece of art, I can supply the direction needed to create a finished piece that will fulfill your needs. Conversely, if you know precisely what you want, I’ll work to apply my skills to exceed your expectations within the context of my artistic interpretation. We will jointly create an image that will satisfy your particular needs while meeting my requirements for quality and aesthetic endurance.
I’d also like to share with you a few thoughts regarding the exciting potential for our relationship and its physical results. On the day they began their assignment, Leonardo hadn’t created the Mona Lisa, Michaelangelo his David, and John Singer Sargent had no idea what would develop from his portrait of Madame (X) Gautreau. The next masterpiece will be the product of concentration, conviction, and the synergy between artist and subject.
Commissioning a painting or a traditional portrait can be a very fulfilling experience—and will likely become a treasured heirloom. Whether you are an artistic novice or seasoned connoisseur, I will give your painting all I have, and with a little luck, the results may be magic.
We can also collaborate to create a unique painting to meet extraordinary objectives or to convey a particular message. The size, complexity, and cost of this type of work can vary significantly, and will be determined once the idea is developed. Framing and extraordinary travel and expenses will be billed separately.
